Like most musicians George was raised around music. His mom and dad
were fans of Latin Jazz and traditional mexican folk songs. As a young kid
he discovered many of the the bands that would inspire him to play music.
The Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix. Throughout
high school he played in rock bands, emulating his heros.
By the time George had graduated high school he was ready to make music
with creative people. George remembers,"We (my band) would write a tune and
I would suggest a chord progression or riff that was out of left field and if I got
a look like,"This guy's crazy", It was time for me to go".
George went to junior college and studied music. While in JC, he continued
to play in rock bands. Experimenting with dissonance and modal harmonies
George was finally finding his groove. George says," One
afternoon my cousin Jose Luis had me listen to his Miles Davis collection of music.
That aftermoon changed my perception of music forever".
Miles Davis has had a great impact on George's approach to writing and
performing music. Along with Miles Davis came more musicians that would
influence him greatly: John Mclaughlin, Carlos Santana, John Coltrane
"It is inspiring how far these guys can go with music".
Shortly after JC George teamed up with Danny Flores. George remembers,
"I met Danny through a trade paper, he was looking for a guitarist". We
met and jammed for hours."
George and Danny formed RING OF MYTH in the early 90's and continues to write
and record songs to this day.
"We keep the song writing forum open so it can lead us to strange new places".
